Workshops

Developing effective workshops is a challenge we enjoy. The topics are always current and usually controversial, such as whether to lift the moratorium on offshore oil drilling or change national policy on the prohibition of illegal drugs. We help our clients find good venues, work with facilitators to design good programs, prepare issue papers and recruit the right participants. Here are some examples of workshops we’ve planned:

Canada’s Oceans’ Future

DKE provided event planning services to the David Suzuki Foundation and four other Canadian environmental organizations to conduct a national symposium in Ottawa to address concerns about oceans policy and management. Participants included leadership-level representatives from federal and provincial government, First Nations, industry, academia and NGOs.

Agroecology Forum

DKE organized a workshop at Harrison Hot Springs Resort for the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Participants from farms and agricultural businesses, academia, NGOs, community organizations and all levels of government strategized on ways to implement more environmentally sustainable agriculture practices.

Creating a Conservation Land Forum

DKE coordinated two workshops for the Greater Vancouver Regional District (now Metro Vancouver) designed to bring about a more collaborative approach to protection of conservation lands. Participants included representatives of conservation organizations, foundations, land trusts and corporations from across the region.
